What Size Trampoline Should I Buy?

What Size Trampoline Should I Buy?

Choosing the right trampoline size can get very tricky. You have to decide whether you’re looking to purchase a low budget trampolines, that’ll last only 1 to 2 years, or purchase a high end trampoline that’ll last for many years. Also, must consider the size of the users, yard size and purposes of trampoline usage. Low budget trampoline, obviously, size isn’t going to play such a large role, because they’re only supposed to last 1 to 2 years. However, if you want a trampoline that will last you for 10 to 15 years, consider the size of the user and your budget. If the users are between the ages of 3 to 5 years old, purchasing the 12 feet to 14 feet trampoline is sufficient. However, if the users are between the ages of 6 to 9 years old, it’s more ideal to go with a 14 feet to 15 feet trampoline. If the users are 10 years old or older, consider the 15 feet or 16 feet. For example, a child who is 12 years old, in the next 2 years, he/she should be much taller and weight a lot more. A 16 feet trampoline has almost double the jumping surface as a 14 feet trampoline. As the user becomes bigger and stronger, he/she will be able to do more maneuvers on the trampoline, thus requiring more jumping space. Smaller trampolines, like the 10 feet and 12 feet trampolines, are more for beginners or just recreational purposes.

Some parents might want their trampoline to be used for training purposes, so they want their athletic trainer to be on the trampoline, thus requiring are larger trampoline. Larger trampolines will allow the user to perform more activities and routines. Especially if the child is using the trampoline for cheerleading practice, so she wants to do flips, a 15 or 16 feet trampoline is a must. Larger trampolines, traditionally, should have a greater weight capacity. Someone who’s training on a trampoline for athletic purposes, will be able to jump much higher, creating more inertia at impact, thus requiring a greater weight capacity.

Last thing to consider when deciding on size would be the yard. Ideally, there should be at least 4 feet of clearance space on each side of the trampoline. Most people, who don’t have the 4 feet clearance on each side, would purchase the net enclosure.

Trampoline Reviews & Recommendations

If you’re a parent like me looking for the ideal trampoline to buy but don’t where to start, well this article is meant for you. I have spent about 6 months researching for the ideal trampoline when my twin girls just joined their high school cheer leading team and have been nagging to me about a trampoline for months. As a parent, I don’t mind getting the best piece of equipment when it comes to my kid’s safety, but at the same time, I don’t want to throw away good money after bad.

Now first determine if you’re going to buy a round trampoline or rectangle trampoline. For competition jumping and gymnastics, I would recommend the rectangular size. Rectangle configuration trampoline provides a jumper better control and higher bounce. Whereas the round ones, it tends to gravitate the jumper towards the center. I was told by a trampoline manufacturer and a trampoline coach on this, so by all means, go and follow up with a local gymnastic coach. And when determining if the trampoline is considered premium quality, or competition grade, make sure they have these specs. Steel frame should be at least 2.5mm or 3.0 mm. The thicker the frame, the better it will support the center when there’s a lot of pressure being bounced on it. The more springs, the better. On a big rectangular trampoline like the 10×17 and 14×16, make sure to have at least 90 springs or more. 8.5” or longer is ideal. This will allow better and softer bounce rather than bouncing on hard platforms as this will wear out your joints and knees sooner. Make sure mats are made of USA Permatron. This is premium quality grade mats. Any other mat will tear within a few years. And make sure mats should have at least 8 to 10 stitching at the outer perimeter where the V-rings are hooked on. By having more stitching layers, this will ensure the V-rings will not fall off through the years. Remember, there are a lot of pressure and force being stretched on the mat and the stitching is its weakest point. And the safety pads (aka, spring pads) should be no less than 1.5 inch. This protects the jumper from being exposed to the springs. Too thin and it will rip or wear out easily or the jumper can land on it and get hurt from the springs. And above all, make sure there is a net enclosure to protect the jumper from falling out. A strong pole support with at least 1.5 mm thick should be sufficient. And make sure the net comes with zippers or a tie-down so small kids don’t fall out. Couple suggestions of manufacturers that provide all these specs are better would be Trampoline Jumpers, Happy Trampoline, IJUMPUSA, Jumpsport.

Best way to set up your round trampoline

Best way to set up your round trampolineRound Trampoline

While there are lots of different round trampoline manufacturers out there, most of the installation jobs are pretty similar.  Follow the manual to set up the frame according to the manufacture.  Some trampolines may have more legs then others.  16, 15 and 14ft trampolines should have a minimum of 6 U-Legs.  It may seem like a lot but it’s good for the stability of the trampoline.  Any size below 12 normally has about 4 U-Legs.  Once you have the frame all set up, it is time to put on the jumping mat.  This is the most important part.  If you do it incorrect you may end up over stretching a spring, or even hurt yourself.  Make sure you lay the mat down on the ground inside the frame.  Next attached all the springs to the jumping mat.  16 ft trampoline should have 120 springs, 15 ft trampoline; 100 springs, and 14 ft trampoline; 96 springs.  Make sure you have a trampoline spring tool.  You will not be able to setup the mat without it.  The spring will potentially pop up and hit you in the face if you do without the spring tool.  And please make sure you wear gloves.  Hook the first spring on.  The next spring you hook on should be the one in the opposite side.  So look at it as if it’s a clock.  The 12 first then the 6.  Then the 3 and 9.  2 and the 7, and so on and so forth.  This is very important to put the spring in like this because it does not over stretch the springs.  If you go from one spring to the next it will make it almost impossible to put in the very last spring.  Once you hook up the springs in the opposite clock formation, put in every 3 springs.  Count 3 spots and one spring, and another 3 spots.  Once that’s finish then you can go ahead and put in the springs in whatever order you like.

Installing a round trampoline

First time installer should take less than 2 hours to install, provided the pieces are laid out correctly and orderly.

Trampolines

Before attempting to install your trampoline, always lay out the pieces and make sure all the pieces are complete. Recommended to have at least 2 person install. First, connect the top frame. Some trampolines come with t-joints and some come with welded joints. T-joints are always better than welded joints, because welded joints, after jumping and vibration over time will eventually crack. As for t-joints, there is no cracking. As soon as top rails are connected, work on the legs next. Connect the leg extensions to the w-legs. Raise the leg extensions and connect to the top rail frame. Now, the frame should be fully completed. Next, install the jumping mat. Start by hooking the jumping mat at 12 o’clock, then 6 o’clock, then 3 o’clock, then 9 o’clock. As soon as the four corner springs are on, work your way around the trampoline. Make sure to not overload the springs on one side over the other. Try to evenly work your way around the trampoline with the springs. Overloading the springs on one side before the other can put a lot of stress on the other side.

Next install the spring pad. Place the mat over the springs and make sure the skirt of the mat fits over the frame. Tie the straps and hooks onto the v-rings and frame.

Start with the net enclosure by installing the inserting the poles into the sleeves. Clamp the poles to the legs and work your way around the trampoline.

How to prevent trampoline injuries?

When buying a trampoline there are many things to consider. Aside from the size of the trampoline and the make and model of the trampoline, one of the most important questions is, how can I keep my children safe in them? According to the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission hundreds of kids get injured each year. Most of these injuries could easily be prevented. Here’s a list of things to consider when buying a trampoline.

Over 75% of all injuries can be prevented simply by having a safety net. The safety nets purpose it to break any fall that may occur should the child fall awkward and have any chance of falling to the ground. While some owners feel that they put the trampoline into the ground they do not need a net enclosure. This is absolutely false! With the net enclosure the child will fall back into the jumping mat which has a little bit of give and the kid will bounce right back up. When you have no net enclosure they will fall either to the grass or the concrete. When having small kids it is imperative you must have a net enclosure.

Next thing is to read the manual. Understand the exact specs of you trampoline. If it said 250 then it’s 250. It does not mean 250 each person. It’s 250 total weigh of all the people in the trampoline. Having too much weight on the trampoline will put added pressure on the springs and also the frame. Once this happens there is always potential the frame could collapse and cause injury or even death.

The third thing is to make sure the trampoline is put together correctly. All the nuts and bolts are as tight as they can be and no springs are missing or damage. Even over stretch springs can cause injury. Make sure the trampoline is completely up and fully assembled before anyone hops on for a test jump. There are many parents who put just the frame and the spring mat up and the kids already jumping. While we understand you are very anxious to have your kids jump and few more minutes will not hurt.

The last thing is to make sure this is only one person jumping at once. Most injuries occur with people jump and fall on the next. Heads bumping, leg getting twisted. Once you are up in the air it is almost impossible to control your fall.

So while a trampoline can be a fun toy to have at home at the same time it can be dangerous without the proper supervision. Most of the items mentions can easily be prevented.

Athletes who most commonly train on rectangular trampolines are cheerleaders, wake boarders, gymnasts, basketball players and divers.

When choosing a rectangular trampoline, make sure the frame and springs are thick enough. The frame has to be at least 3.0 mm thick and springs should be close to 9 inches long and slightly tapered at ends for more strength. Weak frame and springs will give a weak bounce. Always call your trampoline store before making your purchase, so you can understand all the specifications of the trampoline.

Why Choose a Rectangular Trampoline?

Rectangular trampolines, although, more expensive than round trampolines, can be well worth the money. Many athletes and gymnasts train on rectangular trampolines to build endurance, stamina and coordination. Unlike round trampolines, which have a center gravitational point, rectangular trampolines do not. Each individual springs work at different rates, giving the jumper the ability to perform maneuvers and have control of their bounce throughout various parts of the mat. Parents, who want their children to excel in sports, have rectangular trampolines in their backyards. Many professional/personal trainers recommend their athletes to train on rectangular trampolines. Just 45 minutes per day on trampoline training can make a tremendous different in an athlete’s motor skills. The twisting and turning, while suspended in air helps with the coordination and body control. The constant jumping improves the endurance, stamina, strength and builds bone density.

Should I Buy a Rectangle or Round Trampoline?

why should I choose a round trampoline over a rectangle trampoline?

Round trampolines are more economical. For the economical reasons, many first time buyers choose the round trampolines. They’re great for the entire family. Kids of all ages can enjoy jumping. Obesity has been a big concern in the US in the past 10 years. Those wanting to lose weight and improve their cardio vascular conditioning, just 30 minutes per day can make a big difference. Fitness trainers and nutritionist recommend that jumping on a trampoline can improve bone density, build stamina and endurance. Parents, who want their children to excel in sports at an early age, often have their children practice on a trampoline. Jumping daily can help improve coordination and motor skills at a young age. Children growing with trampolines in their backyards often end up becoming better athletes.

Why should I choose a rectangle trampoline over a round trampoline?

Rectangle trampolines are more expensive, but well worth the investment. They have more versatility than round trampolines. Due to the pull and stretch of the springs on different parts of the mat, jumpers can perform maneuvers on any part of the trampoline and the effect would be consistent. For these reasons, trainers recommend their athletes to practice on rectangle trampolines. It’s very common for basketball players, gymnast, divers, cheerleaders, wake boarders and snowboarders to train on rectangle trampolines. However, choosing the right rectangle trampoline can be very difficult. The frame has to be thick enough to support thick springs. The greater the spring count and thicker the spring coil, the more responsive and better the bounce will have. The frame of the rectangle trampoline should be at least 3.0mm thick. Otherwise, anything less would be considered

Rectangular trampolines are little more costly then round trampolines. And round trampolines are more recreational because way of springs pull and stretch is at the same time and that give a center gravitational pull. Rectangular trampolines have different rates for pull and stretch .so; jumper can jump in anywhere and also can get same bounce effect. In round trampoline bounce effect will differ with place of jumping. Rectangular trampolines are used by athletes to get better coordination and boost in stamina.

Study says that trampoline jumpers are safer for cardiovascular disease Trampoline jumpers have better blood flow and pulse rates which stimulates system and makes heart stronger. It also strengthens the legs to act as an auxiliary pump for the cardio system, which lessons the strain on the heart. Trampoline jumpers can have better bone density. Studies have shown that those exercising on their trampoline at least 3 to 4 times per week have higher bone mineral and density content than those who seldom exercise.

Health Benefits of Trampoline

We know that trampoline jumping is very helpful to improve health and body fitness. There are many health benefits for trampoline jumpers .  Trampoline jumping helps remove toxins. The body has zillions of cells, so the gravitational pull pushes out the toxins while bouncing.  During the period of weightlessness, the body is suspending midair, the lower pressure in the cells promote the movement of nutrients into the cells.

Trampoline jumpers has less risk of cardiovascular disease .  trampline jumping can  help strengthening the heart by increasing the pulse rates and blood flow.  It strengthens voluntary and involuntary muscular system to make the cardiovascular system more efficiently.  It also strengthens the legs to act as an auxiliary pump for the cardio system, which lessons the strain on the heart.

Trampoline jumpers can have better bone density .  Studies have shown that those exercising on their trampoline at least 3 to 4 times per week have higher bone mineral and density content than those who seldom exercise.

The trampoline jumping helps stimulate all internal organs, moves the cerebral-spinal fluid and benefits the intestines. Many immune cells, such as macrophages and T-lymphocytes are self-propelled through amebic action. These cells contain molecules identical to those in muscle tissues.  All the cells in the body become stronger in response to the increased “G force during trampoline jumping, and this cellular exercise results in the self-propelled immune cells being up to 5 times more active.  These immune cells are responsible for eating viruses, bacteria and even cancer cells, so it’s good that they be active.  trampoline jumpers have one more benefit of immune system, immune system is also strengthens for trampoline jumpers due to healthy heart and blood flow.
